"Many weeks you work all 3 shifts. Sometimes back to back. No time for appointments as you won't know your schedule until Thursday the week before and many times HR doesn't approve you for days needed off for appointments or other activities."

"While advancement is fairly quick the training is horrible. Once you get a permanent job your continuing to learn a job above you and even then the training is no good. The pay is legit but it seems as the only ones who have constant work these days is management due to difficulty keeping work for everyone. I wouldnt reccomend this employer based out of depere by any means us the benefits are terrible minus the 401k match. STAY AWAY!"

Had no choice after being in a hostile work environment for more than 6 months but to leave or be forced to move to a different dept for way less play, rather than deal with the hostile employee.MoneyEverything else"

"I worked at the Depere mill. It was AWFUL!! The job I could handle, but the people were terrible! Training, wasn't really even there, and the supervisor didn't really deal with anything, basically layed everything in you to figure out on your own.NoneToo busy for breaks. "I gave my all to this organization on one of their start up projects only to be told that I did not meet their standards 6 months later... I felt "used"...Decent WageNo direct management involvement and understanding of work actually being performed.Expera successfully stepped in to restart the mill in 2013 and began to rebuild the organization; however, following the restart, the decline of the Canadian dollar exchange rate, combined with a significant increase of new pulp capacity, led to a material drop in market pulp prices. Additionally, wood costs did not moderate in Maine commensurate with the decline in demand. The combination of these forces did not allow Expera to be able to sustain operations beyond December 31, 2015, even with a dedicated and talented team of Old Town Mill employees."

"Management is terrible. Pay/benefits are terrible. Teamwork is non existent. The union is garbage, but hopefully after the contracts expire they can redeem themselves."

"The management is very horrible. There are way too many managers that don't do any work and are overpaid. To save money, the company takes it out on the workers. Schedules are changing constantly and at the last minute, so forget about having a life outside of work. Very few of the managers are actually in charge of anything, so there's no accountability. HR is very patronizing while cutting jobs or bouncing you from one shift to another. The pay is good, but there are other places in the area that pay similarly. The vacations are horrible. One week after one year. Two weeks after three years.Poor management"

"Worked there 8 1/2 years. Was bullied by an employee and company choose to look the other way as did the so called Union. Decided to leave instead of being fired for dealing with bully on my own.PayEverything else"

"Worked for them a considerable length of time. Great people on the floor if you just listen to them a little bit, current and past management just brow-beat the union employees (really sad to see). Electrical/Instrumentation technicians are difficult to work with in most areas, have little to offer in skill sets and work desire. Management is really poor. Currently there are many changes going on and they are attempting to make it better but, the existing management does not have a finger on the pulse of those whom are on the floor. Overall great pay for the job, poor insurance coverage, claims of end of year bonus, but, not typically there.Decent workforcemanagementIt’s never easy to hear about an employee’s less than perfect work experience. While there may be individuals you found difficult to work with, Expera agrees with you that we have a lot of “great people.” We do believe each person and every job and function within Expera is important and contributes to the success of the company. "Southern swing shift. You will have zero free time when you start working there. Safety is pushed on you for a week of training but isn't as big of a deal when you get on the floor.Good payZero free time."

"The turn over rate is absolutely wild and here is why. 1. This company acknowledges that they have a harassment issue and writes it off as being apart of their work culture. Unfortunately if you have low self and are easily triggered. This may not be for you. The advancement is quick. (You could be moved up to 3 or 4th hand within a few months. But if your not driven or fit enough, the likelyhood of putting up with the grueling first few months could make or break you .Umm. Profit sharing. Union.No official breaks within a 12 hour period, You are literally a slave to the machine, Not fat person friendly unless your looking for an extreme workout, Harassment is HIGH, Unrealistic work expectations and job tasks, Extremely high turnover rate."

"Company is not financially sound. They are publically traded and are only producing 2-3% profit. Constantly in a state of flux between divesting and consolidation. Management at the Windsor Locks site is some of the worst. Favoritism is rampant and new ideas that are not aligned with management are suppressed. The facility and offices are in a very poor state of disrepair, very hard to attract and keep talent to a job that has average pay poor profitability, poor management and a run down facility. For example one of the plants sewer lines was overflowing for months dropping raw sewage into the basement."

"The company doesn't live its values. It's restructured so many times that its lost a lot of good employees and they've moved unqualified employees into new positions. Raises never happen and many employees arent even within the minimum pay range for their position. There are little advancement opportunities due to an extremely flattened organization."

"Work schedule awful. Rotating shifts a killer on body. Promotes based on who you know and not what you know. Training is a joke. Favoritism runs wild. If you go against a boss they will get revenge. The truth is not encouraged. They will ship anything to make reduce waste on there end"

"Extreme favoritism for certain individuals. Not the same standards for everyone. Some people are paid in their pay band while others are paid way below. No rationale on this. Raises are the same 1 - 2 % each year IF there is a raise, and not based on merit or level of work performed. 1 - 2 honest white collar employees that carry everyone else. Custom computer programs don't work. No training on how to use them. HR is a joke, never on site or has door closed."


"The executive management team lacks a constant direction and/or compelling strategy. They do not listen and assume they know everything without asking their employees for input. They expect change by simply posting an update on their intranet site. The entire executive team has turned over (and grown) except the CEO and EVP, HR while the company has shrunk by 50%."

"Hours worked coupled with pay make anyone trying to find other employment cringe at the total loss of money they would incur. Zero talent management....zero. Site profits are relatively low. Need corporate capital to modernize. Supervisors are blue collar promotions who have expert machine experience but no people/supervisory experience. Little to no room for site promotions. Company promotions move you well out of area (if any). Constant talk of losing business overseas makes some uneasy. Amazing sick pay but if you call out or do not show when on call ~8 times, you will be terminated."
